10/16/2003: After I had written a report to dr.Tisscher about how it went with the vitamin B12, I got an email back from him in which he recommended to take every 5 to 10 days a B12-shot. He also wrote:
"this means that you have a disturbance of the sulfite oxidase due to a different 'Michaelis constante' and need a sky-high concentration of vitamin B12 or molybdenum"
Later on he explained it me as follow:
"Some enzymes can only do their job when a sufficient enough amount of vitamin or mineral has hooked on to it. It works like a power shovel needs a driver.
If the enzym has another kind of 'eye' due to a genetic ability/variation and is too big then the vitamin just flows through the eye and can't hook itself. Then you need several (higher dosage) or a bunch (sky-high dosage) of vitamins to stuff the eye. Only then the enzym can work."
I also had sent a copy of my mail to my gp and had forwarded the reaction of dr.Tisscher towards him. My gp however was on holiday that week and so I took a B12-shot anyway on Wednesday 8 October and as suspected I started feeling better again.
Past Monday 13 October my gp was back and so I called him to ask if he was willing to prescribe me more often B12 as dr.Tisscher suggested. But he first wants to do some research if so much and so often has no side-effects. This means that I have to wait for his decision and because I have no syringes anymore I will not get a B12-shot this week.
I actually knew this upfront, because he already wasn't happy with the idea of a B12-shot once in 2 weeks.
Somehow I agree with him that he first wants to know more about it, but on the other hand I clearly notice a positive effect of the B12 and so he actually denies me 4 better days a week and maybe even an improvement in the long term.
I await his reaction (he calls me as soon as he knows more) and otherwise I contact dr.Tisscher if he wants to prescribe me B12.
11/26/2003: Neanwhile I know my gp doesn't support the idea to inject once a week B12, because according to him I don't have that much deficit that I need those shots so often. He discussed this with an internist and because he confirmed the thought of my gp, my gp come to the above conclusion. Also the internist thinks I don't have PA, because I am still too young for this condition and because I don't have severe anaemia. According to that Dutch site however those things aren't true anymore nowadays, but my gp disagrees and so he refuses to prescribe a B12-shot more often. Also the fact that I feel so much better after a shot is no reason for him to try. He is a gp and doesn't want to experiment and if I want to I will have to go to someone who is willing to experiment.
Meanwhile I have emailed dr. Tisscher with the question if he wants to prescribe me vitamin B12.
I haven't heard anything yet, but of course this will be followed.
